Accusation Against the Former Mayor of Odesa in the Tragedy
According to inkorr.com: On October 29, Prosecutor General Andriy Kravchenko announced suspicions against former Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov in the case of the death of nine individuals during the tragic events that occurred on September 30. Nine other city council officials and municipal enterprise employees also received suspicions.
'On September 30, nine people died in Odesa. The blame lies not with a natural disaster but with the official negligence of officials,' Kravchenko wrote on social media. He emphasized: 'This is not about carelessness; this is about criminal negligence that led to the deaths of people.'
The prosecutor's office noted that the tragedy was a result of official negligence by an employee who had held his position for a long time and was aware of the situation in the city but took no measures to improve it. All suspects face up to 8 years in prison.
Details of the Tragedy
Among the victims were a family of displaced persons from Kurakhove, a Ukrzaliznytsia inspector, a nurse, and other residents of Odesa. One family perished on the basement floor of a house that was quickly flooded to critical levels.
The National Police confirmed the delivery of suspicions to Trukhanov and other officials, including deputies and employees of the city council departments responsible for the deficiencies in the drainage and stormwater systems in the city.
The tragedy of September 30 left a profound mark on the souls of Odesa residents as innocent lives were lost. The Prosecutor General emphasized that official negligence was the cause of this horrific event, and the guilty parties could face serious penalties.
