Fuel stations near frontline face serious threats: expert outlines safety strategies.
Why gas stations in conflict zones are vulnerable
According to Espreso.tv: Energy specialist Hennadii Riabtsev has highlighted the security risks facing fuel stations in Ukraine's frontline regions and proposed measures to better protect them from Russian attacks. In the early hours of June 27, Russian forces targeted gas stations in Zaporizhzhia and the Kharkiv region. Production facilities belonging to the Naftogaz group in the Poltava and Kharkiv regions were also hit.
Hennadii Riabtsev, chief researcher at the National Institute for Strategic Studies, stated: 'It is hardly possible to fully protect large facilities like gas stations.'
These remarks underscore the serious security situation for fuel stations operating in high-risk areas. During the attacks, a shuttle bus transporting workers from one of the production sites was damaged. However, according to Serhii Koretskyi, 'thanks to systematically implemented safety measures, none of our colleagues were harmed.' This shows that despite the dangers, existing precautions helped prevent serious casualties.
Urgent need to tighten security measures
Given these events, the security environment for fuel stations in frontline regions remains tense. Experts are calling for stronger protective measures for critical infrastructure to guard against future strikes.
The heightened vulnerability of gas stations in conflict zones makes it essential to urgently reassess safety protocols for key infrastructure. Attacks on such facilities not only threaten energy security but can also destabilize local economies. Specialists argue that additional steps must be taken to safeguard fuel stations and other vital enterprises, aiming to reduce risks and ensure a steady fuel supply across Ukraine.
