Electricity from Space for Thousands of Homes: Iceland Prepares Ambitious Project.
Iceland plans to use solar energy from space. This is reported by the Icelandic company Transition Labs, which, together with Reykjavik Energy and the British Space Solar, is working on this project.
The first Space Solar installation has an initial capacity of 30 MW, which will provide constant and independent power supply in any weather and Time of day. Our project aims to provide economically efficient power around the clock, making a new step in the development of renewable energy. Each solar power station with a capacity of 30 MW will be delivered to orbit in one launch using the Starship megrocket from SpaceX
Space Solar is already preparing the first solar panel, which will be launched into Earth's orbit soon using the Starship megrocket developed by SpaceX.
With the help of "space electricity," in five years, thousands of homes can receive energy. Solar panels will collect sunlight in space and transmit it to a ground station as radio waves, which will be converted into electricity for power grids.
Space Solar power stations consist of modular building blocks that can be assembled in different sizes for different altitudes and provide electricity to several countries simultaneously.
The development and installation of the first Space Solar installation will cost around $800 million. However, developers predict that this energy will be 4 times cheaper than nuclear. If the project is successfully implemented, Iceland will become the first country to receive an energy source from space, and solar energy will become a serious competitor to existing energy sources.
