Elina Svitolina finished her performance at the US Open-2024.

Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (No. 28 WTA) failed to reach the round of 16 at the US Open-2024, btu.org.ua reports.

In the first set, Svitolina won all three break points of Gauff, which the American had in the seventh game, then won eight points in a row, and took the opponent's serve in the eighth game. Midway through the second set, the Ukrainian lost a game on her serve, allowing Gauff to maintain the lead until the end of the set.

The decisive set began with Svitolina losing her serve, and in the fifth game, the American made another break to lead 5-1. Elina managed to win two games in a row, saving three match points on Gauff's serve, but after that, she could not minimize the gap.

The Ukrainian suffered her second defeat in three matches against the American tennis player. In January, Svitolina lost to Gauff in the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland.

Today, Elina Svitolina fought for her first victory over a top-5 opponent since July last year when she defeated world No. 1 Iga Świątek in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.

Recall that August 26 marked the start of the last Grand Slam tournament of the year - the US Open. Six Ukrainian tennis players took to the courts on the first day of the competition.
