Ukraine has large oil deposits: where the richest fields are located.

Oil is one of the key energy resources that plays an important role in the development of the economy and industry. Ukraine has its own oil fields located in various regions, but their volumes and significance vary. News.LIVE has figured out where the largest oil deposits in the country are located.

According to the Data Portal of the extractive industry of Ukraine, there are three oil and gas regions in our country:

1. Eastern — Dnipropetrovsk, Luhansk, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and Donetsk regions.
2. Western — Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Chernivtsi, Volyn, and Transcarpathian regions.
3. Southern — Odesa and Zaporizhia regions, as well as in the shelf of the Black Sea, Azov Sea, and in the temporarily occupied AR Crimea.

The majority of hydrocarbon reserves are concentrated in the Eastern oil and gas region, where the most is extracted. Natural gas reserves in this region account for 76.50%, in the Western and Southern regions — 14.24% and 9.26% respectively.

The largest amount of balance oil reserves is concentrated in Poltava, Ivano-Frankivsk, Sumy, Lviv, and Chernihiv regions. In total, among 212 oil fields in Ukraine, most are very small, but the largest volumes of reserves are concentrated in 17 main fields, which account for 52.07% of all oil reserves in the country.
