According to The Sun: Rugby star and England international Victor Radley received a record suspension for getting his club into trouble.

The name of 27-year-old Radley was mentioned in the case of New Zealand player Brandon Smith, who was charged with the illegal supply of a dangerous substance and using or disclosing inside information for gambling.

Victor Radley has not faced any criminal charges, but reports of his communication with Smith have been widely discussed in Australia.

Radley's club, the Sydney Roosters, decided to suspend him for ten games and required him to contribute £22,000 ($30,000) to the St. Vanessa's Hospital to support cancer research.

Additionally, during the suspension, he will not receive any payments from the club.

While the Roosters imposed this sanction, they acknowledged that Radley has not been charged by the Queensland police, but believe that his name has caused damage to the club's reputation.

Suspension Order

The ten-year ban was the largest ever imposed on the Sydney Roosters.

In a statement from the club, they mentioned:

“The Sydney Roosters are aware of media references to communications between player Victor Radley and others regarding the alleged receipt of an illegal substance.”

“Although Radley has not been charged by the Queensland police, references to communications between him and others have tarnished the reputation of the Sydney Roosters.”

“As a result, after discussions with the club's management, the club will impose the following sanctions on Radley for the negative attention the allegations have brought: a 10-match suspension without pay. A contribution of $30,000 to St. Vanessa's Hospital (for cancer research).”

“This is the largest penalty ever imposed on a player in the club's history.”

Victor Radley expressed his regret and accepted these sanctions:

“I want to sincerely apologize to the club, my teammates, our sponsors, members, and fans for the negative light I have brought on the Roosters.”

“I accept the sanctions fully and will work to regain the trust and respect of all who support this great club.”

Radley has been with the Roosters since 2017 and has also played nine matches for the England national team since his debut three years ago.

This situation could significantly impact Radley's career and the reputation of his club. The ten-match suspension serves as a serious signal highlighting the importance of ethics and responsibility in sports, especially in the world of professional rugby. The Sydney Roosters and their fans hope this incident does not affect the team's performance in the future.
