Abandoned stadium in Britain to receive new life: when the work will begin.
Grays Athletic plans to restore the abandoned stadium
According to The Sun: Grays Athletic Club has announced its plans to restore the neglected stadium.
Ship Lane stadium once served as the home for Thurrock FC, but the team ceased to exist in 2018 after its owner dissolved the club.
@GraysAthleticFC @GraysAthleticFCThe stadium currently looks neglected, with the field overgrown with tall grass and weeds.
The stands require repairs and painting, and the former club room of Thurrock FC is unfortunately closed.
However, Grays Athletic hopes to return to Ship Lane after several years of sharing stadiums with other clubs.
Previously, the team played at New Recreation Ground, but after its sale in 2010, they were forced to look for a new place to play.
Currently, the club plays at Tilbury FC stadium, but the situation will change after Grays gain ownership of Ship Lane in 2024.
The club plans to start work at the new stadium following an important vote that passed with a narrow majority.
The vote was held after technical issues led to changes in the project, giving opponents a chance to stop Grays' plans.
However, the success of the vote was accompanied by the condition to start work within the next six months.

Grays Athletic hopes to start the stadium renovations soon, with plans to complete the work before the start of the 2026/27 season.
A statement from the council said:
“As the changes to the plans were relatively minor, the architecture officer recommended the committee approve the application, and as a result, the committee voted in favor of the amendments.”
“This now means that as a football club we can start planning how to make Ship Lane our home for decades.”
Fans reacted to the news with enthusiasm. One of them noted:
“Such a good pitch, it’s a pity it fell into disrepair.”
Another pointed out:
“So many memories of this stadium from childhood.”
Some believe:
“I’m sure it will look great.”
Another added:
“By the way, still better than Tilbury’s pitch!”Restoring Ship Lane stadium is an important step for Grays Athletic, who aim to return to their roots. This stadium will not only serve as a home for the club but will also revive the shared memories of fans who eagerly await its restoration. After many years of wandering, the team finally has a chance to have a roof over their heads again.
