Chelsea loses again due to a red card: what Maresca said after the defeat

According to The Sun: Head coach of 'Chelsea' Enzo Maresca urged his team to stop giving away points to opponents in the Premier League.

He acknowledged that the players lost their fighting spirit after Trevoh Chalobah's red card in the 53rd minute of the match.

This is already the second red card in a week for 'Chelsea', and the frustrated players could not hold back – a mass brawl started in the penalty area, after which the team conceded two late goals.

Maresca emphasized:

“The message we conveyed in the locker room was very clear – against any team in the Premier League, we cannot continue to give gifts. Our behavior with red cards is a huge mistake, as the game changes drastically.”

“We controlled the game, scored one goal, did not concede, had numerous shots in the first half, and 70% possession. Everything was good. But then, due to our mistake, everything changed with the red card.”

“For me, it was a completely different game: the first half and, unfortunately, everything that happened after the red card.”

“We cannot keep making mistakes, as these are serious mistakes that can change the course of the game – a red card in the match against 'Manchester United' and now a red card.”

Next Tuesday, 'Chelsea' will meet their former coach Jose Mourinho in the Champions League, and 'The Special One' will be particularly motivated, given the current problems.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez received a red card last week for a foul on 'Manchester United' forward Bryan Mbeumo.

Chalobah will miss the next game against Premier League champions 'Liverpool'.

Maresca also faced the problem of numerous injuries, forcing him to use left-back Jarell Hato in the center-back position against Albion.

Maresca noted:

“We definitely need to learn, and learn quickly. This can be due to both experience and simple mistakes. But, in my opinion, if you look at the first half today, you won't remember the injured players, as we were again controlling the game.'

“Then, when Josh Achemponk, who had been sick for a week, came on, we tried to change the situation a bit.'

“Josh, at the moment, was our center-back. Both are fantastic players but still lack enough experience in the Premier League. So when you have 10 players, that’s the moment when you need to manage the situation.”

There was also a mass brawl as the game approached additional time.

“A punch to the face from Malo Gusto to Yankubi Minteu led to a mass confrontation of players in the penalty area of 'Chelsea'.

Defender Benoit Badiashile was glad he did not receive a red card after a tussle with Albion captain Lewis Dunk.

A few minutes later, 'Chelsea' conceded two goals and suffered defeat.

'Brighton' coach Fabian Herzceller commented:

“This is not very good. But ultimately, we have to play football and focus on this to become the best players we can be.'

“But my captain is there for the team, so it's important for him to step up in such moments. I didn't see it perfectly. The main thing is that we kept our cool, had good positions and structure to create moments. We attacked the penalty area well.”

Due to numerous player problems, 'Chelsea' continues to seek balance in their game to get back on the winning track. It seems the team has a lot to learn to improve their results in the Premier League and on the European stage.
