Andriy Yermak tried to prevent the dismissal of the head of the SBU, Malyuk: what is known about the conflict

According to ТСН: The former head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak tried to avoid being dismissed from the position of the head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, who pointed out to the president the necessity of Yermak's resignation. According to sources in law enforcement agencies, over the past weeks Yermak 'fought against his dismissal as best as he could', but his efforts were unsuccessful.

'In particular, in the corridors of the Verhovna Rada, discussions were initiated regarding 'whether there will be voices for Malyuk's resignation?'. There were attempts to 'pin' the blame on the SBU, saying 'this service failed to react, personnel decisions are needed.'

Resignation of Andriy Yermak

The resignation of Andriy Yermak on November 28 became one of the most significant political events during the full-scale war. He left the position after searches conducted by NABU and SAP as part of a corruption investigation in the energy sector. The investigation is checking the possible embezzlement of funds from state enterprises, including 'Energoatom', in large amounts. Although no official suspicions were raised against Yermak, international media such as Reuters and Le Monde called the searches 'a blow to the decision-making center' in Ukraine.

Since his appointment in 2020, Yermak has become a key figure in Ukrainian politics, progressing from a foreign affairs advisor to one of the most influential officials coordinating diplomatic, parliamentary, and security matters.

Experts believe that after his resignation, the presidential team faced the need to quickly reset communications with partners and internally reorganize, as many decisions made in recent years were made through Yermak.

Despite the lack of official suspicions, political pressure, public interest in the case, and the sensitivity of the moment – against the backdrop of prolonged negotiations with the USA – made his resignation inevitable. Currently, there are active discussions in the corridors about who might become the next head of the President's Office.

Yermak's resignation has sparked numerous discussions about the future of the President's Office and will influence strategic decisions in the country in wartime. Political analysts and journalists are monitoring developments to understand how this will affect relations with international partners and internal stability in Ukraine.
