EU is ready to allocate 200 million euros to the Lebanese Armed Forces - Borrell.
The EU supports Lebanon and is ready to allocate 200 million euros
The High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated that the European Union is ready to support Lebanon after the Israeli strikes and allocate 200 million euros to the Lebanese Armed Forces.
This was reported by hromadske citing Borrell's statement made during his visit to Lebanon.
This is already Borrell's third visit to Lebanon this year.
'And I decided to complete my work here in Lebanon because what is happening in the Middle East and, in particular, here in Beirut, presents a challenge to the international community as to whether we truly want and are capable of making peace,' emphasized the head of European diplomacy.
According to him, Lebanon is 'on the brink of collapse' due to the war between Israel and 'Hezbollah', as a result of which airstrikes were carried out on Beirut and Baalbek.
Borrell pointed out that as a result of these airstrikes, more than 3500 people have died, which is three times more than during the Lebanese war in 2006. Another 15,000 people were injured.
'As the European Union, we support the Lebanese people, the Lebanese army, and Lebanese institutions. We are ready to allocate 200 million euros to the Lebanese Armed Forces,' said Borrell.
