Pressure Mounts on Russia as Talks Stall

According to UATV: EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has stressed the urgent need to intensify pressure on Russia, calling for strict enforcement of the oil price cap and a €90 billion credit package for Ukraine.

“Our strategy must be one of increasing the pressure,”
she stated, emphasizing that this approach is essential to sustain Ukraine amid ongoing Russian aggression.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha voiced frustration over the lack of progress in negotiations with Moscow, warning that

“losing focus on supporting Ukraine is unacceptable”
as key issues remain deadlocked. The timing and location of the next round of talks involving the US, Ukraine, and Russia now hinge on Washington’s decision, injecting further uncertainty into an already fragile process.

Aggressor Reaps Economic Gains

Meanwhile, the 20th sanctions package against Russia must be implemented, though transactions involving Russian oil are permitted until April 11, 2026, provided the oil was loaded before March 12. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy estimates that Russia earned roughly $10 billion from just two weeks of operations in the Middle East, underscoring the continued financial benefits flowing to the aggressor.

As the international community calls for decisive action, experts warn that without a ceasefire, peace remains elusive. Zelenskyy struck a cautiously optimistic note, stating:

“I believe there are prospects for a peaceful settlement in this war between Russia and Ukraine.”
However, achieving that settlement will require genuine effort and concrete steps from both sides at the negotiating table.

The atmosphere surrounding Russia-Ukraine talks remains tense, and international pressure on the Kremlin is steadily rising. Tougher sanctions and economic coercion could prove pivotal in pushing toward a compromise. At the same time, clarity on the negotiation schedule and sustained Western backing for Ukraine may shape the region’s future trajectory.
