EU buys oil and gas from Russia for billions of euros: who imports.
Persistent Dependency: EU's Energy Purchases from Russia
According to inkorr.com: Despite the war in Ukraine, the European Union continues to make significant purchases of oil and gas from Russia. As of August, monthly expenditures exceed 1.1 billion euros, and the total for the year approaches 19 billion euros.
Hungary and Slovakia are not subject to the embargo on Russian energy resources and continue to receive oil via the 'Druzhba' pipeline. Among the largest importers of Russian gas are Hungary, Slovakia, Spain, Belgium, and France. After the onset of the conflict, most EU countries reduced the volume of direct imports from Russia.
'The Kremlin has managed to maintain a stable level of oil and gas exports thanks to increased offers from China and India,'
Ukraine is actively urging Europe to stop importing Russian energy resources. The European Commission plans to completely abandon Russian oil and gas by the end of 2027; however, some countries still remain dependent on Russian energy resources.
Thus, despite the reduction in the volume of supplies from some EU countries, the overall dependency on Russian energy supplies remains a problem that Ukraine demands to be addressed.
Against the backdrop of the energy crisis in Europe, the issue of dependency on Russian energy resources is becoming increasingly acute. It is important for EU countries to seek alternative energy sources and cooperate within the framework of joint strategies to achieve energy security.
