EU allocates 1.5 billion euros for defense: what role does Ukraine play.
According to inkorr.com: The European Union actively supports Ukraine in the field of defense, taking an important step towards integrating the Ukrainian defense industry into the European system. During the Danish presidency of the EU Council and the European Parliament, a decision was made to create the European Defense Industrial Program (EDIP), which will allow Ukraine to participate in joint defense projects.
The previous agreement provides for the establishment of a targeted defense financing program worth 1.5 billion euros, which will operate from 2025 to 2027 in the form of grants.
A feature of the program is the involvement of the Ukrainian defense industry through a specialized Support Instrument for Ukraine, for which 300 million euros is planned to be allocated from the overall EDIP budget. A decision has also been made on Ukraine's participation in European defense projects of joint interest.
Strengthening European defense capability
EDIP aims to enhance the defense readiness of the European Union by strengthening the competitiveness and operational efficiency of the European Defense Technological and Industrial Base (EDTIB), into which Ukraine is expected to be integrated.
'The European Defense Industrial Program is key to Europe's defense readiness. It will enhance our ability to produce and supply critically important defense equipment and ensure our capacity to respond quickly and decisively to an increasingly complex security environment,' said Danish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.
The Danish minister also emphasized that the program will contribute to bringing Ukraine closer to the European defense industry, which will be beneficial for both Ukraine and EU countries.
Thus, the European Union supports Ukraine in the areas of defense and security, launching a project that will enhance Europe's defense capability and contribute to the security of the region. The agreement provides for significant investments and active cooperation between Ukraine and European partners.
