EU launches EES: how new rules will affect the travel of Ukrainians.
New changes at the borders of the European Union
Starting from October 12, a new border control system - Entry-Exit System (EES) - will come into effect in the European Union. This system will replace the usual passport stamping process and will record the biometric data of travelers. However, there may be expected queues and delays.According to inkorr.com: EES is an automated information system designed to ensure safety and accurate control over the stay of citizens from 'third countries' in the Schengen area. The system will cover 29 Schengen countries and will not apply to holders of residence permits or long-term visas.
The full launch of EES is expected to take place on April 10, 2026, after phased implementation over six months. Travelers are advised to be ready to provide biometric data and use the self-service system to avoid delays. After the implementation of EES, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is also planned to be introduced in 2026, which together with EES will enhance security at the borders of the European Union.
The new EES system will be an important step in ensuring security at EU borders, adapting control processes to modern requirements. It is expected that all travelers will be able to pass through control more quickly, as all information will be processed automatically. This will also simplify procedures for tourists, reducing waiting times at the borders.Read also
