This year, the team presented an impressive purple away kit and a third jersey that is half black and half white.

Before the start of the European season, FC Basel confirmed that they would use a special white alternative kit for away matches in the Europa League.

UEFA deemed FC Basel's purple away kit 'too dark' for participation in the tournament.

Additionally, the third kit has 'too many black elements'.

21-time Swiss champions will debut their alternative kit today in the Europa League match against 'SC Freiburg'.

The white alternative uniform of FC Basel will be complemented by white shorts and socks, which come from their banned third kit.

The club's management does not plan to sell the alternative jersey due to 'very limited quantities of jerseys' available for sale.

Full statement from FC Basel

FC Basel 1893 will wear its special alternative kit for most of its away matches this season due to strict UEFA regulations that do not consider either the purple away kit or the third kit acceptable light-color options.

The purple tone of the second kit was classified as too dark according to UEFA's color palette, thus it does not meet the requirements for a light jersey. The third jersey, in turn, has too many black elements and was also not approved.

The designs of the jerseys are approved approximately a year before their sale. During planning, the club believed that the chosen color would meet the requirements. After UEFA's assessment, FC Basel is now forced to switch to a neutral jersey.

The alternative kit is predominantly white with thin accents of gray and black. It will be paired with shorts and socks from the third jersey.

The jersey will first be worn in an away match against 'SC Freiburg' on September 24, 2025. However, due to the limited number of jerseys available, this special kit will not be sold.

FC Basel's trip to Freiburg promises to be one of the shortest this season.

Located in the north of Switzerland, Basel is just an hour's drive from the German city.

Interestingly, the two cities share the same airport - EuroAirport, although they are in different countries.

Even more surprisingly, EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg is actually located in France.

The alternative kit, although not planned for sale, will allow the team to compete on the international stage without interruptions.
