Euroleague Suspended Referee Caught Stealing Perfume at Airport.
Basketball referee Matej Boltauzer was suspended from working at Euroleague matches for one season. This is reported by Eurohoops.
In April this year, Republica published a video from a surveillance camera, which shows how in December 2023 Boltauzer steals a bottle of perfume worth 221 euros from a shop at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade.
After being detained, the referee admitted his guilt and compensated for the damage, but the Euroleague opened a disciplinary case.
The Slovenian referee will be able to return to work in the 2025/2026 season if the Euroleague refereeing department makes the appropriate decision.
UEFA Disqualified Polish Referees
UEFA disqualified Polish referees Bartosz Frankowski and Tomasz Musial, who were supposed to officiate the first match of the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League between Dynamo and Rangers in Lublin, Poland, on August 6.
Before the Kyiv club's game, they were detained by police at 01:43 at night for stealing a road sign and fleeing with it to the shopping center.
TVP Sport notes that Frankowski was found to have almost 1.7 per mille of alcohol in his blood, and Musial had about 1.8 per mille. Both were immediately placed in a sobering-up center.
UEFA then suspended both from the Dynamo game, and the Polish Football Federation fined and suspended them from activity.
On October 25, UEFA stated that both were accused of violating fundamental rules of dignified conduct and brought disrepute to football.
Despite apologies from the referees, they will not be able to participate in UEFA competitions until June 30, 2025.
Recall that French Sports Minister Gilles Aulines proposes to strictly punish football clubs for the behavior of fans.
"Unfortunately, sometimes we have to resort to collective sanctions. The appropriate rules will be applied. FIFA protocol must be strictly followed. As soon as homophobic chants start, the match is stopped for a few minutes, and then may be interrupted. Teams head to the locker rooms for a certain Time, and then the game resumes if order is restored. A stricter measure is to stop the game and award a technical defeat with a score of 0:3 to the hosting side. The League and the French Football Federation have been instructed on the need for strict application of this regulation," said Gilles Aulines.
He also emphasized that inappropriate fan behavior could lead to the most severe consequences during the upcoming Marseille vs. PSG game in the French championship.
"Homophobic outbursts in the stadium are unacceptable. There may have been certain traditions in the past, but society has changed. We want to return to the state that was during the Olympic Games. Sport unites people, it conveys the values of humanity, liberty, equality, and fraternity. The values of the Republic. We need to end these outdated chants. We will no longer tolerate this," declared Aulines.
