Europe has set a new climate target for 2040.
The European Commission has presented a new strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040. This initiative is outlined in the EU Climate Law. Wopke Hoekstra, the European Commissioner for Climate, emphasized the importance of this step for enhancing the EU's competitiveness and protecting against extreme weather conditions and global warming.
Protecting citizens and the economy from climate change is the top priority. The proposal will be discussed in the European Parliament and the EU Council with the aim of being adopted through the legislative process. This step aims to help achieve the goal of making Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, which has been supported by the European Union and its member states.
Such measures are aimed at reducing the impact of climate change on people and the economy, as well as creating a more resilient and healthy ecosystem in Europe. This is an important step in the fight against global warming and its consequences for the entire world.
