Ukraine will become part of the EU defense system by 2027: details of the decision.
European Parliament Resolution on Ukraine
According to ТСН: Today, the European Parliament adopted a resolution that provides for the integration of Ukraine into a single EU defense system by 2027.
Correspondent Tetiana Vysotska reported live on Espreso TV that "the European Parliament approved two resolutions. One of them concerned the European Defense Industry Programme, abbreviated as EDIP (European Defence Industry Programme)."
Vysotska emphasized that a key point was the inclusion of Ukraine in the European defense industry. "It should be noted that EUR 1.5 billion has been allocated for its financing until 2027, of which one-fifth will go towards Ukraine's involvement in Europe's defense production system," she clarified.
According to her, the Ukrainian defense sector will receive about EUR 300 million in the form of grants that businesses and entrepreneurs can use to create joint productions with European partners or to expand their capacities.
"Thus, by 2027, Ukraine will be integrated into the single EU defense system," she emphasized.
The correspondent also noted that the EDIP program is part of a broader initiative called "Readiness 2030," which is a flagship project for the European Union. "The program states that by 2030, the EU wants to be ready to repel any external attack, primarily from the Russian Federation. Therefore, today's resolution confirmed that Ukraine will become part of the EU defense complex," Vysotska noted.
Earlier, it was reported that the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, would hold an informal meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council regarding Ukraine. It was also noted that the EU spent more money on purchasing oil, gas, and other goods from Russia than it provided to Ukraine for protection against the aggressor state.
The approved resolution of the European Parliament underscores the importance of integrating Ukraine into the EU's defense structures, which will be a key step in strengthening the security not only of Ukraine but of the entire European continent. In the context of the ongoing aggression from Russia, the EU's readiness to support Ukraine in its defense efforts is particularly relevant.
Further steps will depend on the successful implementation of the EDIP program and cooperation between the Ukrainian and European defense sectors. This opens new opportunities for Ukrainian enterprises in the defense industry.
