According to The Sun: Former Arsenal goalkeeper Graham Stack decided to transfer London's rivalries to the boxing ring for a charitable cause.

A participant of the legendary 'Invincibles' season of 2003-04, Stack organized a boxing match featuring ten former footballers next Saturday.

The main event will be a meeting between former Chelsea midfielder Jodie Morris and ex-Tottenham player David Bentley at the Grosvenor hotel in Mayfair.

While all funds will go to four different charities, there will be no room for friendship in the ring.

Stack, 44, noted in an interview with SunSport:

“Of course not, we're not doing this for that. We are former footballers, former athletes, and I think if you offered them to play chess or billiards, they would do everything to win, and this will be no exception.”

Morris, 46, spent seven seasons at Chelsea, debuting in 1996, and later returned to the club in 2019 as Frank Lampard's assistant.

Bentley, who previously played with Stack at Arsenal, joined Tottenham in 2008 and spent five years there. The former England international, 41, is training with Kevin Mitcham, while Morris is under the supervision of former middleweight champion Darren Barker.

Boxing as a New Hobby for Former Athletes

Stack believes that boxing among former footballers could become a new popular trend. He said:

“In any sport, there is always a vacuum, and we are trying to fill it with something. This gives guys the chance to feel the spark, get back to purpose, and gain structure.”

Stack emphasized that it is important to avoid injuries, so participants will use headgear and gloves, but there will be real fighting in the ring.

Charity Goals

Stack is organizing a fundraising event for four charities, including the Willow Foundation, founded by Bob Wilson in memory of his daughter Anna, who died of cancer. Other charities include Helping Hands, Playskill, and Sport in Mind.

“We are trying to raise half a million pounds. It's not about me, it's not about the boxers, but about what we can achieve in the end,” Stack added.

This event demonstrates how sports legends can unite their efforts in support of important social projects.
