Former Arsenal talent Billy Vigar in artificial coma after serious injury.
Young footballer's dire condition
According to The Sun: Former Arsenal player Billy Vigar is currently in serious condition — he has been placed in an induced coma. This was reported by his club.
The 21-year-old striker of Chichester City sustained a serious injury during a match against Wingate & Finchley in the Isthmian Premier League.
GettyThe club's statement on X reads:
“Billy suffered a significant head injury and is currently in an induced coma in intensive care, receiving the best possible treatment.”
It also adds:
“It is too early to say what the outcome will be, and even under the best circumstances, the recovery process will be lengthy.”
The injury occurred in the first 15 minutes of the match. Reports indicate that the injury resulted from a collision with a hard surface near the field, rather than contact with another player.
Vigar received medical assistance from the ambulance, and then he was airlifted to a hospital in London, according to information from Sussex World.
The game was suspended due to this incident.
The entire world of lower league football expresses support. One fan noted:
“Sounds traumatic for everyone, horrible incident. Thoughts are with the player, his family, and everyone at the club.”
Another fan added:
“Thoughts are with him. This sounds absolutely horrendous.”
Vigar started his career at Arsenal, joining the club's academy at the age of 14. He progressed to the U21 team and played on loan for Derby County U21 and Eastbourne.
In 2024, after failing to break into the first team, he left Arsenal and joined Hastings United in the non-professional league.
This tragic event underscores the risks faced by players in lower leagues, where some of the safety measures available in professional football are absent. We hope Billy Vigar recovers soon and returns to the sport he loves so much.
