A scandal in the Dutch team: Depay misses the game due to a stolen passport.
Memphis Depay could not join the Dutch national team due to a stolen passport
According to The Sun: Memphis Depay, who previously played for Manchester United, now represents the Brazilian club Corinthians. Unfortunately, he could not embark on the Dutch national team's gatherings as his passport was stolen.
The player planned to fly from South America to meet with coach Ronald Koeman and the rest of the team on Sunday evening. However, when Depay began to pack his things, he could not find his passport.
He even showed up at the airport in hopes that the security services would allow him to pass, but that did not work out.
Depay currently plans to travel with emergency documents but will arrive a day later than planned. According to Koeman, this will deprive the player of a spot in the starting lineup for the match against Malta on Thursday.
“The plan I had for this week will change a bit. He will not start, no.”
“When he wanted to go to the airport, about an hour before, he packed his things and could not find his passport.”
“That is uncomfortable – especially for Memphis, but also for us.”
With 52 goals, Depay surpassed Robin van Persie and became the top scorer of the Dutch national team this year.

His absence from the starting lineup could open opportunities for other forwards like Joshua Zirkzee and Brian Brobbey. However, both have not made the squad.
Koeman noted that the situation remains unchanged as long as these players do not play regularly.
“Ultimately, when they play more, they remain options, but we are also looking further.”Getty Depay is undoubtedly an important figure for the Dutch national team, and his absence in the game will somehow affect the team's game strategy. The player's return for the game against Finland could be a crucial step in increasing the Netherlands' chances on the international stage.
