Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez sustained stab wounds in altercation.
According to The Sun: The family of former NFL star Mark Sanchez commented for the first time on the attack against him during a parking lot conflict.
38-year-old Sanchez was attacked by a 69-year-old truck driver after a dispute that arose in an alley in Indianapolis on Saturday morning.
Obtained by NY PostThe former NFL player, now a commentator on Fox Sports, was urgently hospitalized - initially in critical condition, but later his condition stabilized.
According to his brother Nick, Sanchez is still under medical supervision.
“This time has been very hard for everyone involved,” they said.
“Mark and our family express gratitude for the care, love, and support we have received over the last few days.”
“Mark remains under medical supervision due to serious injuries and is focused on his recovery as the matter is ongoing.”
“We want to express our heartfelt thanks to the first responders and medical staff.”
The driver, who was picking up food oil from hotels, parked poorly during the incident, which led to the dispute.
Sanchez started talking to the driver when he got out of the vehicle, trying to check the situation.
According to the investigation, Sanchez pushed the driver against the wall of the Westin hotel, after which a fight ensued. During the conflict, Sanchez was reportedly pepper-sprayed, and the driver stabbed him several times, fearing for his life.
Sanchez suffered facial injuries, and subsequent photos showed his severe condition.
Perry Tole claims he is a victim in this case and has filed a lawsuit, fearing permanent injuries.
The driver stated that Sanchez was intoxicated. The incident resulted in physical injuries and emotional distress.
Footage emerged showing Sanchez walking down the street with blood on his shirt. Local residents helped him, noticing he was bleeding.
Scott Bennett, owner of Loughmiller’s Pub and Eatery, said he applied towels to Sanchez's wounds.
“There was definitely blood, not flowing, but it was visible,” he told WXIN-TV.
Bennett also added that there was blood on Sanchez's pants, and the man couldn't clearly express his thoughts.
FOREIGN STAR UNDER CHARGES
Witnesses were stunned by the events in the alley.
Darren McLaughlin shared that he did not expect Sanchez to end up in a fight.
Additionally, Sanchez was scheduled to comment on the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
Initially, he was charged with battery resulting in injury, public intoxication, and unlawful entry to a vehicle. However, he was later indicted with aggravated battery.
According to the court's verdict, Sanchez could face up to six years in prison.
Sanchez played in the NFL for 10 seasons, starting with the New York Jets in 2009, after playing for the USC Trojans in California. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Washington Redskins, finishing his career in 2019. Since 2021, Sanchez has been a commentator on Fox Sports.
