American sprinter Curly joins Enhanced Games: the goal is to break Bolt's record.
Fred Curly aims to break Usain Bolt's world record
According to The Sun: American sprinter Fred Curly, one of the brightest stars of athletics, will soon attempt to set a new world record in the 100 meters, which still belongs to Usain Bolt. His attempt will take place as part of the Enhanced Games, where the use of doping is permitted.
APParticipation in the Enhanced Games
Curly, a 30-year-old two-time Olympic medalist, became world champion in 2022 in Eugene, clocking a time of 9.76 seconds. He became the first athlete to sign a contract to participate in the Enhanced Games, where the use of traditionally banned substances is allowed.
However, Curly recently received a temporary ban from the Athletics Integrity Unit due to a violation of the rules regarding reporting his whereabouts for anti-doping testing.
If found guilty, he could face a two-year ban from competing in athletics.
Currently, Curly is not participating in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, but he has expressed his intention to appeal the ban. It is unclear how this will affect his participation in the Enhanced Games.
“I am looking forward to this new chapter and competition in the Enhanced Games. The world record has always been a major goal of my career. It allows me to fully dedicate my energy to surpassing my limits and becoming the fastest person who has ever lived.”
Opportunities and challenges
Curly's agents, Pace Sports Management, announced the termination of cooperation with the sprinter after his decision to participate in the new format of competitions.
The organizers of the Enhanced Games intend to set a new record in the 100 meters and are ready to offer a bonus of 1 million dollars if Curly can surpass Usain Bolt's result – 9.58 seconds.
“We are excited to see such an elite athlete as Fred join the Enhanced Games and attempt to break the world record that has remained unbroken for 16 years,” said Maximilian Martin, CEO of the Enhanced Games.
Curly follows in the footsteps of British Olympic swimming medalist Ben Proud, who also announced his participation in this event. The first event is scheduled to take place in Las Vegas next year in a specially built venue.
This news opens a new era in athletics, where the Enhanced Games may fundamentally change approaches to competition. Participants, including Curly, have the opportunity to test their abilities in unusual conditions that challenge traditional views on sport. How this will affect the future of athletics remains a question awaiting resolution.
