Discussing the project, Cesar Azkarat, head of sports events at IDOM, noted:
“Focusing on its shapes, we made the stadium and the roof fluid and dynamic elements.”
“Visually, they have curved shapes on the north and south, providing more space, and convex shapes on the east and west, showcasing Eduardo Ibarra Square and Isabel la Católica Avenue.”
The La Romareda stadium was located in the center of Zaragoza and was home to the Real Zaragoza football club, which currently plays in the second division of Spanish football. The team is playing its matches at the Ibercaja stadium during the renovation. This stadium also hosted three matches during the 1982 World Cup, including those between Yugoslavia, Northern Ireland, and Honduras.
