FIFA Responds to Trump: Host Cities for the 2026 World Cup Will Not Change Due to His Threats.
FIFA Confirms That World Cup Match Venues Will Not Be Changed
According to The Sun: FIFA has announced that the locations for the World Cup matches scheduled for next year will remain the same, despite statements from President Donald Trump.
Previously, Trump threatened to move World Cup games from cities he deems 'too dangerous' as part of his approach to combat violence.
AFPPresident Trump sent the National Guard to fight crime in several cities led by Democrats.
When asked whether cities like Seattle and San Francisco, which have political disagreements with him, can host matches, Trump said:
“That’s an interesting question, but we will be confident that they are safe.”
“They are run by radical left crazies who don’t know what they are doing.”
Nonetheless, FIFA rejected Trump's plans to relocate matches.
During the leaders' week in London, Vice President Victor Montagliani confirmed that their organization has the authority to determine the World Cup venues.
This is despite Trump having close ties with FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Montagliani emphasized:
“This is FIFA's tournament, FIFA's jurisdiction, and the decision is made by FIFA.”
“With all due respect to modern world leaders, soccer is bigger than them.”
“Soccer will outlast their regimes, their governments, and their slogans.”
World Cup Host Cities
Seattle and San Francisco are just a few of the cities in the U.S. that will host soccer matches. The list also includes Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Miami, New York, and Philadelphia, which will welcome fans next summer.
Canada and Mexico will also jointly host the tournament along with the U.S.
The Trump administration has already allocated hundreds of millions of dollars for security during last year's Club World Cup.
Trump noted:
“As you probably know, we (the National Guard) are going to Memphis and some other cities.”
“We will be going to Chicago very soon. It will be safe for the World Cup. If I think it’s unsafe, we will absolutely move it to another city.”
In conclusion, Trump added:
“If any city we consider even a bit dangerous for the World Cup, or for the Olympic Games in 2028, we will not allow it.”
“We will move it a bit. But I hope that doesn't happen.”
Thus, FIFA has solidified its position on organizing the 2026 World Cup despite political statements. This is an important signal for soccer fans, as the safety and quality of the tournament remain in the hands of the soccer community, even when politics tries to interfere in the process. The World Cup has already garnered international support, and expectations for the global sporting event continue to grow.
