New Passports in the UK: What Changes in Design and Security.

According to The Sun: New designs of passports featuring the updated coat of arms of King Charles will be introduced in the UK this year.

Starting in December, the new coat of arms will replace the version used during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

The new passport design will include four UNESCO-listed sites from each region of the UK, including:

• Ben Nevis (Scotland)
• Lake District (England)
• Three Cliffs Bay (Wales)
• Giant's Causeway (Ireland)

New technologies will also be included in the passport with improved anti-forgery measures, including advanced holograms and transparent elements.

Each page will have a uniquely laser engraved passport number. The UK government claims it makes it "the most secure British passport".

“The introduction of His Majesty's coat of arms, iconic landscapes, and enhanced security features marks a new era in the history of the British passport,” said Migration and Citizenship Minister Mike Tapp.

“It also reaffirms our commitment to outstanding public service - celebrating British heritage and ensuring that our passports remain among the safest and most reliable in the world for years to come,” he added.

Blue passports with the coat of arms of Queen Elizabeth II will remain valid until their expiration date. The modern style of the British passport was first introduced in 1915 and was also blue.

In 2020, passport colors returned to dark blue after a temporary change to burgundy due to the EU.

Some elements of the passport have already been updated, including the wording that they are authorized by 'The Ministry of His Majesty's Passports'. However, millions of Britons still have previous burgundy passports which they can use until they expire.

At the same time, new rules that came into effect after the UK’s departure from the EU have limited passport validity to 10 years without the possibility of renewal. This has led to problems for many families who cannot travel due to new regulations.
