Ryanair Warns of European Airport Chaos: Which Flights Face Delays Due to New Border System.
New Border Control System Triggers Delays Across European Airports
According to Novyny.live: Ryanair has alerted travelers to widespread delays at European airports, caused by the rollout of the new Entry/Exit System (EES) for border control. This has significantly disrupted passenger flows throughout the summer. Operating over 3,000 flights daily, the airline has seen routine hold-ups become the norm as the new inspection procedures take effect.
Airports Most Affected
The hardest-hit airports include Tenerife South, Palma, Alicante, and Malaga in Spain, along with Bergamo in Italy, Krakow in Poland, and Paris Beauvais in France. No carrier has been spared. In April, more than 100 easyJet passengers missed a flight from Milan Linate to Manchester due to passport control queues. In June, a Ryanair flight from Toulouse to London departed without 150 passengers—underscoring the severity of the situation.
Neil McMahon, Ryanair's Chief Operating Officer, has urged European governments to postpone the implementation of the new border control system.
He argues that a delay is essential to protect passengers and their families, and to ensure airports can operate smoothly during peak demand periods like school holidays.
Which airports should travelers avoid this summer? Given the delays and long lines at passport control, passengers are advised to carefully consider their routes, especially when flying through the named airports where conditions are likely to remain tense.
The ongoing delays at European airports highlight the challenges both airlines and passengers face under the new border regulations. Although the EES system is designed to enhance security, its introduction is currently causing major inconvenience for travelers. Additional hold-ups could affect the popularity of certain routes and reduce overall passenger volume during the summer season.
