Football fan banned for bursting into his own side’s dressing room and launching ‘vile attack’ on team after away loss.
Incident in the Chester FC dressing room
According to The Sun: A Chester FC fan caused a stir by breaking into the team's dressing room, where he was eventually restrained.
This situation occurred on Saturday following the team's loss to Worksop Town with a score of 2-1 in the National League North, the sixth tier of competition in England.
Chester FCAccording to reports, the fan behaved aggressively, resulting in a physical altercation that had to be diffused by players and staff.
“Chester Football Club condemns the behaviour of an individual who instigated a serious confrontation at the end of today’s match at Worksop Town.'
“This individual was verbally abusive before being able to gain access to the tunnel area, where he entered the away changing room, initiating a physical altercation where he had to be restrained by players and staff.'
“We acknowledge it has been a disappointing start to the season and as a fan-owned club, we will always defend and respect supporters’ right to ask questions and criticise.'
“However, as a club we do not believe vile abuse, personal attacks, and physical threats are warranted under any circumstances, and have a zero-tolerance policy for such behaviour.”
After the incident, the club identified the individual involved and announced that he would be banned from attending future Chester matches.
Team status
Currently, Chester FC has only earned seven points in their first six games, having secured two victories and suffered three defeats.
The team sits in 15th place in the league table after the latest loss.
Two years ago, Chester imposed a lifelong ban on eight fans for violent actions during a semi-final playoff match against Brackley Town.
At that time, fans stormed the field, set off smoke bombs, and attempted to storm the away section, while buses near the stadium were also damaged.
“Brackley’s then-manager Gareth Dean branded the scenes a “disgrace” after children had been left “petrified for their safety.”
Chester FC apologized and assured that such actions do not align with the club's values.
The situation with the fan highlights serious issues the club faces in its relationships with supporters, as well as the need to enhance security measures at matches. The club aims to maintain a positive image and emphasizes that it will not ignore violence and hatred from its fans. Given the low performance on the field, it is important for the team and its supporters to find a constructive way to interact without resorting to aggression.
