Raymond van Barneveld discusses his potential retirement GettyHe admits that it’s hard to cope with a busy tournament schedule and recognizes that he might have to step away from the sport if his results do not satisfy him.
However, despite this, holding 34th place in the world, he aims to participate in all competitions, believing he can compete at the highest level.
“At the moment I am 58 years old, so I think about 60, 61, but if I still enjoy it, why not continue? A few years ago I gave up, but I really missed it,” he mentioned in a conversation with Boyle Sports.
Van Barneveld emphasized that now the tournament schedule is quite demanding, as Pro Tours take place not only on weekends but also during the week.
“Right now it’s really a lot. I’ve heard many players complain, and they sometimes skip competitions when they can, but I am not in a position to skip because I am currently 34th in the world and I need to play in all and hope for good results,” he added.
The future after darts
Barney, at the age of 58, is already contemplating what he will do after ending his professional career in darts.
He intends to conduct courses to teach this sport, but he is also considering several other options.
“I think I could organize online courses, but I still need to figure everything out,” he noted.
Van Barneveld plans that participants from different countries, such as Singapore or New Zealand, can join these classes.
“I could introduce a subscription fee, maybe monthly, and answer their questions, help with setups and other matters. This could be a good idea,” he shared his thoughts about future activities.id='6370372883112' data-video-id='6370372883112' data-account='5067014667001' data-player='default' data-usage='cms:WordPress:6.5.6:2.8.6:javascript' data-embed='default' class='video-js' data-application-id='' controls style='width: 100%; height: 100%; position: absolute; top: 0; bottom: 0; right: 0; left: 0;'> Van Barneveld, with his vast experience in darts, is already contemplating his life after an active career.
