Erik ten Hag rejected the offer to lead FC Twente: reason - million-pound severance.
Erik ten Hag refused to return to his childhood club
According to The Sun: Erik ten Hag, the Dutch coach recently fired from Bayer, has decided to decline the offer to return to his youth club. This came just a few weeks after his release due to the team's poor results.

Ten Hag left the club just 62 days into his tenure. He was appointed Bayer's coach after the departure of the successful Xabi Alonso, but the situation quickly deteriorated. The club sold several key players, including Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, complicating matters.
After the season started, results in the Bundesliga only worsened, leading to his dismissal on September 1. It has been reported that Ten Hag is entitled to a severance compensation of £4 million.
It is quite likely that, despite his desire to return to his childhood club FC Twente, he declined the offer to preserve his compensation. The situation at FC Twente is not the best either: the team started poorly, and the club is looking for a new coach.
Ten Hag played over 250 matches at a professional level for FC Twente, becoming the team captain and winning the KNVB Cup in the 2000/01 season. His refusal may disappoint the club, but Bayer's new coach has a chance to prove that Ten Hag's decision was the right one.

While the refusal to return to FC Twente, where he established himself in football, is symbolic, the club's situation demands urgent decisions. Clubs undergoing tough times often require unconventional approaches to coaching decisions, and this case is no exception.Read also
