Former Liverpool Star Becomes Technical Director in UAE: New Role for Danny Guthrie.
Danny Guthrie Appointed Technical Director at Football Academy in UAE
According to The Sun: Former Liverpool and Newcastle player Danny Guthrie has now taken on the role of technical director at a football academy in the United Arab Emirates.
The 38-year-old Guthrie received this new job three years after declaring bankruptcy when he failed to repay £100,000 that he borrowed from a friend.
Instagram @alhadhafa and @bigguth20 Chris Bourchier - The Sunday TimesChris Hitt, who lent Guthrie money to buy a house, says he has not seen the money back, even after selling the property.
Hitt admitted he felt “quite cheated” and had no choice but to declare him bankrupt.
Guthrie agreed to six years of bankruptcy, which will last until May 2028.
Earlier in Guthrie's career, he looked promising, having played for Liverpool and spent some time at Manchester United's academy. In 2008, Newcastle paid £2.5 million for him.
The last years of his career have been significantly less successful. He played in Indonesia and Iceland before retiring, which led to his bankruptcy.
Guthrie has been involved in various projects after finishing his career.
New Role at the Football Academy
He now works as a technical director at Al Hadha Football Academy in the UAE.
“I am excited to join Al Hadha to share my experience and knowledge with the next generation. I feel that it is my duty and I can't wait to get started,” said Guthrie.
Guthrie is registered in Dubai when he was declared bankrupt. Earlier this year, he was introduced as a coach at IFG Phoenix City, which combines sports and education.
He also offers private training through his own initiative, The Overachievers’ Club.
