“The first thing I want to say is that I have great support for their fans, as Sheffield Wednesday is a great football club.
“I am not fully aware of the situation, but I understand their emotions. I acknowledge that.”
“But I have to think about Coventry and my players, and I heard that people might come onto the pitch.”
“We have not yet received clear conditions – but we are negotiating about the safety of our players. And we want that communication.”
“We understand what might happen, and it’s important to discuss this, as I am protecting Coventry in this situation.”
Lampard added that he will discuss possible unregulated circumstances with the team but emphasized the importance of focusing on the game.
“The issue at this stage is that something might happen, or it might not. And that is the best situation. If nothing happens, the game will take place.”
“If something happens, we will react accordingly. If the game is disrupted, we will deal with it in the process.”
Lampard expressed hope that “security will truly be ensured on their part. But at this stage, there are many unknowns.”
Teams' form before the match
Coventry heads into this match after a convincing 4:0 victory over Millwall. They are in second place and are the highest-scoring team in the league.
Lampard noted:
“This is particularly challenging test for us – first of all, due to the difficult nature of the Championship.”
“Secondly, because Wednesday is at the bottom of the table, fighting for everything, and their recent match results have been decent.”
“There are many events surrounding the club – this is an additional component to football – but it is important.”
Security at the match between Coventry City and Sheffield Wednesday is becoming the number one topic. Lampard, concerned for his players, continues to negotiate with the opponents regarding security protocols. Meanwhile, Coventry's form instills hope for success in the game, as the team has shown excellent results recently. All this promises an exciting match, although with uncertainty surrounding the security that could impact the course of events.
