Ukrainian Bodycare Network Closes All Stores: What Will Happen to Employees

According to The Sun: The popular cosmetics chain Bodycare is closing all 56 of its stores this week, marking another serious blow to high street retail.

The company, which was once famed for its stores, appointed administrators earlier this month and shut down 32 locations immediately.

Another 30 stores closed the following week, and now Bodycare has confirmed that all remaining 56 stores will close this week.

The company, which started from a small market stall in Lancashire in the 1970s, has failed to find a buyer. A lack of goods and high operating costs made continued trading impossible.

All Bodycare stores will close for the first and last time on September 27.

As a result of the closure, 444 employees will lose their jobs, and the Interpath Advisory administrative team has pledged to assist them with their applications for unemployment benefits.

Nick Holloway, CEO of Interpath and joint administrator, stated: “We understand that this has been a difficult time, so we once again express our sincere gratitude to Bodycare staff who have maintained the high standards of service and presentation that Bodycare is known for since administration was appointed.”
He added: “We will continue to explore opportunities for the company’s assets, including the Bodycare brand, and will provide further updates in due course.”

Bodycare was once a thriving business offering popular brands such as Nivea and L’Oreal.

However, the company faced financial difficulties due to the pandemic.

Bodycare has been trying to keep the business afloat with advisors from Interpath and its owners Baaj Capital for months.

Baaj Capital recently secured a £7 million loan against the company’s stock, hoping to buy time, but attempts to stabilize the situation have not been successful.

Further Store Closures

This announcement follows JD Sports closing 13 of its stores due to a drop in sales over the past six months.

This retailer, known for selling branded footwear and sportswear, reported in their annual reports the closure of 13 stores in the six months leading up to August.

In total, 23 JD Sports stores have closed in the UK, while another 10 have been opened.

Its branch in Dagenham, located in the Heathway shopping center, also closed on September 6.

Meanwhile, Amazon announced the closure of all 19 of its Fresh stores in the UK just four years after their launch.

The company has begun a consultation process aimed at closing all stores, offering a new format of 'convenient grocery store.'

Customers had the ability to simply walk out of the store, while the 'Just Walk Out' technology automatically charged them. However, plans for expansion with hundreds of stores have been shelved as the concept did not meet expectations.
