Millions of households will receive thousands of pounds in support: all types of payments.
According to The Sun: Millions of households will receive payments to help cope with high costs ahead of Christmas. This is especially important in the cold months when energy costs rise.
GettyLast month, it was revealed that average gas and electricity costs will increase by 2%, which will amount to approximately £35 a year in October. Moreover, the pre-holiday period typically requires additional expenses for gifts and food.
Fortunately, there are several support options for households facing financial difficulties, including energy grants, cash vouchers, and additional payments.
Household Support Fund – £1,000
The Household Support Fund provides assistance to cover living expenses. The total budget of the fund is £742 million, and local councils decide how to distribute these funds.
Each local authority has its own eligibility criteria for receiving support, which depend on residence and financial status. Assistance may be provided in the form of cash transfers or shopping vouchers.
Winter Fuel Payment – £300
The Winter Fuel Payment is designated to support elderly individuals in covering energy costs during the cold months. Although previously this assistance was extended to all retirees, fewer people now receive it.
Nevertheless, the cash payment of up to £300 remains important for Pension Credit recipients.
Warm Home Discount – £150
The Warm Home Discount is a one-off reduction in electricity bills of £150, usually provided automatically from October to March. It is available to residents of England, Wales, and Scotland who receive certain social benefits.
Cold Weather Payment – £25 per week
During winter, eligible households receive additional funds to heat their homes. If the temperature drops to 0 degrees Celsius for seven consecutive days, you will receive £25 for each week.
DWP Christmas Bonus – £10
Thousands of households receiving assistance will receive a tax-free cash bonus of £10. The payment is usually sent in the first week of December to those who qualify for one of the 20 qualifying benefits.
Energy Grants – up to £1,700
Families with debts for electricity and gas bills can receive assistance through free energy grants of up to £1,700. This program is available for prepayment customers.
Additionally, other energy companies offer their grants for clients facing financial difficulties. It is recommended to contact your energy supplier to learn about possible support options.
These payments and support programs aim to assist the most vulnerable segments of the population during financial hardships, providing essential resources to cover energy and living costs. Ahead of the holidays, such support can become a real lifeline for many families and ensure them comfortable conditions during the winter months.
