But just five minutes after returning to the field in the second half, thanks to Tyreek George and Facundo Buonotte, the team managed to take over the initiative.

When asked about the intensity during his speech, Maresca replied:

“Absolutely, absolutely.”

“We prepared for the match by focusing on what the first half was like. Sometimes it comes down to desire, fighting for the ball, and experience.”

“Jami Gittens had never played against League One teams, such games.”

“Yorrel Hato also hadn’t played in such matches. We need to change our approach.”

He added:

“In the first half, we were quite aware of what awaited us on the field: long balls, tough duels, throws, and free-kicks. Every time in the penalty area.

“I asked the players how many of them had played against League One teams because a different style of play is needed here.”

“It’s not the same, as the opponent's desire doubles, and it affects the duels.”

Maresca summarized:

“We had difficulties in the first half, but improved significantly in the second.”

Lincoln's head coach Michael Skubala noted:

“We showed high intensity – we pressed Chelsea quite effectively.”

“The players showed bravery.”

“However, we are disappointed as we had a chance in the last five minutes.”
