The USA and the EU are developing security guarantees for Ukraine: what the terms entail.
Key security guarantees for Ukraine
'Coalition of willing', which includes 31 states, together with the United States is actively working on a list of security guarantees for Ukraine. They are supposed to ensure long-term peace and are a key topic in negotiations to end the war.
Russia, for its part, wants to have veto power over any security measures from the West for Kyiv, sees them in its own way, and is openly against the presence of foreign peacekeeping contingents on the territory of Ukraine. In fact, this undermines the possibility of negotiations between the USA and the Russian Federation.
Security guarantees according to experts' assessments
Oleg Saakyan, a political scientist and co-founder of the 'National Platform for Resilience and Cohesion', believes that the aggressor state cannot influence the definition of security guarantees for the country it has attacked. The Russians have been told more than once: the Russian Federation is not the country that will determine what guarantees will be provided to Ukraine.
Viktor Yahun, a reserve general of the Security Service of Ukraine and director of the Security Sector Reform Agency, emphasizes the importance of patrolling the skies over Ukraine and allocating funds for this purpose by Europe.
Ihor Reiterovych, a political scientist, emphasizes that there should be a unified position in the civilized world regarding security guarantees, which must be clearly articulated.
Yaroslav Telehun notes that the key issue for Ukraine is the price of security guarantees and their real impact in practice.
Key security guarantees for Ukraine become the object of attention of many countries seeking to ensure long-term peace in the region. Various experts point to the importance of a unified position on this issue in the civilized world and do not agree with the interference of the aggressor state in determining future security guarantees.Ihor Petrenko emphasizes that armed forces are needed on the line of confrontation, which are given a mandate to prevent any acts of aggression.
