Security guarantees for Ukraine: two key components from General Romanenko.
Security guarantees for Ukraine: Romanenko's opinion
According to FREEДOM: For Ukraine to be safe, it needs support from Western allies and the presence of foreign military contingents on its territory. This viewpoint was expressed today, August 24, on the talk show of the FREEДОМ channel by the founder of the charity fund 'Closing the Sky over Ukraine', retired Lieutenant General Ihor Romanenko.
According to him, first of all, the issue of the line of demarcation must be resolved through military-diplomatic means - where exactly it will run.
'The security guarantees themselves should include at least two components. The first - which is more realistic - is intensive and large-scale assistance in supplying weapons, equipment, and ammunition from partner countries. European countries are actively participating in this and gaining momentum, but there is such a sector where the Americans can help in full measure,' Romanenko believes.
The second direction he called more complicated - the deployment of foreign military contingents on the territory of Ukraine.
'These are troops from countries that are part of the 'coalition of the determined'. They can be on the second line - providing logistics or being observers who could characterize the situation, that is, violations of agreements. Each of the states participating in such assistance is very important to us,' the expert expressed his opinion.
It should be noted that the first projects of security guarantees for Ukraine will be ready as early as next week, said the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak.
