Mykola Malomuzh Weighs In on Frontline Developments

According to UATV: In an interview on the FREEДOM TV channel, Ukrainian Army General Mykola Malomuzh addressed the challenges currently plaguing the Russian military, including its struggles with reserve formation and battlefield failures. He also highlighted the successes of Ukrainian forces in stabilizing the front and launching counterattacks.

On March 22, 2023, Malomuzh—who served as head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service from 2005 to 2010—delivered a detailed analysis of the situation on the ground. According to the general, Russia had planned to capture the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, but failed to achieve those objectives.

“The assumption was that the offensive capability on the Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad axes would allow them to seize these cities and then advance toward Kostiantynivka.”

Developments on the Zaporizhzhia Axis

On the Zaporizhzhia front, Russia attempted to assemble a force of up to 100,000 personnel. Malomuzh emphasized that “the enemy tried to form a powerful grouping—up to 100,000 troops—on the Zaporizhzhia axis.” However, he noted that approximately 1,000 Russian soldiers are being eliminated each day.

“This is now a blow not only to manpower but also to morale.”

Additionally, Russia has announced plans to mobilize over 400,000 individuals in 2025. Malomuzh confirmed that Ukraine’s defense forces have not only stabilized the front but are also carrying out active counteroffensive operations:

  • Ukrainian defense forces have stabilized the frontline.
  • They are conducting counteroffensive actions.

Thus, the situation at the front remains challenging, yet Ukrainian forces continue to demonstrate their effectiveness in combating the aggressor.

Malomuzh’s remarks underscore the scale of preparation and resources Russia is committing to prolong the conflict. However, despite the enemy’s numbers and plans, Ukrainian forces show considerable resilience and maneuverability, signaling their readiness for a protracted struggle. This dynamic indicates that the military conflict will continue to shape regional stability and security in the near term.
