Arne Slot: 18-year-old Liverpool rookie suffers severe injury and sidelined for a year.
Challenging situation for Giovanni Leoni
According to The Sun: Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has confirmed that Giovanni Leoni is expected to spend approximately 'a year' recovering from his injury.
The 18-year-old footballer suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during his debut match against Southampton in the Carabao Cup earlier this week.
GettyThe Italian joined Liverpool from Parma for £26 million this summer.
He was forced to leave the field on a stretcher at the end of the match where the 'Reds' secured a 2-1 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night.
Coach's Comments
Commenting on Leoni's injury during a press conference ahead of their trip to Crystal Palace, Slot said:
“He is not in good shape, as he has torn his ACL, which means he will be out for about a year. It’s pretty hard to look at positives when you are so young, have come to a new country, and played well in your first match.”
“It’s always difficult to find positives in such situations, but we can bear in mind that he is still young and has many years ahead of him after recovering from this terrible injury.”
This is a developing story...
Leoni's injury is a significant blow for Liverpool, as he was just starting his career in England. The recovery period could have a substantial impact on his future with the team and on the ambitions of the 'Reds' this season. The coaching staff hopes that the young footballer will be able to return to the field stronger in the future.
