The Head of the European Commission voiced the position on security guarantees for Ukraine.

President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated that a decision regarding the role of the European Union in a peace agreement for Ukraine will be found in cooperation with the Ukrainian side. She responded to journalists' questions during a press conference in Brussels regarding Europe's possibilities within the framework of the peace agreement ahead of negotiations in Saudi Arabia.
During the upcoming negotiations, which will take place next week, against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's position that European countries must guarantee Ukraine's security, the issue of the EU's role will be discussed.
Von der Leyen emphasized the special nature of relations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his team, noting that they can rely on each other in crisis situations and find solutions. She also expressed hope that the negotiations between Kyiv and Washington will lead to a fair and lasting peace. Speaking about security guarantees, she noted that the strongest guarantee of security is NATO membership, but this is currently impossible, so the Ukrainian army and armed forces play an important role.
According to von der Leyen, the negotiations are fruitful discussions in which all parties find optimal solutions.
It is also worth noting that a large-scale defense plan for Europe is delayed due to the position of Macron and Scholz.
