The EU must strengthen its defense role and cooperation with NATO
After meeting with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated that the European Union needs to enhance its defense role, develop its defense industry, and improve cooperation with NATO.
'We agreed on one of the fundamental priorities for all Alliance members – the necessity of enhancing our collective defense, which requires a robust defense industry, significant investments, and more effective cooperation between the EU and NATO,' Mitsotakis said.
Greece has submitted proposals that would allow EU member states to have more budgetary capabilities for investing in defense projects. It plans to reform its army and modernize its defense industry after a decade-long debt crisis that led to cuts in spending. Additionally, Greece is negotiating with Israel to create a 'dome' for air and missile defense worth 2 billion euros.
Furthermore, Mitsotakis stated that it is important to continue supporting Ukraine.
