One of the key objects of the 'Victory Square' will be the restored propaganda stele with the names of 'Soviet hero cities'. The opening of such an object is planned for May 9 of next year, on the day when Russia celebrates 'Victory Day'.
The Mariupol City Council noted that the restoration of the stele and the creation of the 'Victory Square' is just one of the steps in restoring the Soviet presence in the city, which also includes the return of Soviet street names.
The Ukrainian city of Mariupol, which is currently under occupation, plans to restore the stele of hero cities of the USSR and create a 'Victory Square' by May 9, 2026. These steps are just part of a broader process to restore Soviet symbolism in the city.
