According to The Sun: “HE was the heart of Hyde.”
Emily Tunnycliff, 25, left a simple floral arrangement by the home of Ricky Hatton, known as the Heart of Evil, joining numerous others who also came to pay their respects.
PAFor many, the former boxer was the heart not just of Hyde, but of all Britain.
“I am from Hyde,” Emily noted.
“He was proud of his hometown, and we were proud of him. He did so much for this town, never forgetting his roots.”
Her friend, boxer Tyler Dolby, 23, trains at Ricky's gym, managed by his brother Matthew.
“He was a guy from the common folk, and that never changed. He was an inspiration. Always encouraging the youth, showing them they could succeed,” Tyler agreed with her.
People came silently, expressing their condolences.
Fans, dressed in Manchester United shirts, left their flowers next to wreaths adorned with Ricky's favorite logo - Manchester City.
Charlie, 45, said: “I watched all his fights. I met him once, and he was very welcoming. He didn't see himself as a star, just Ricky.”
A grey, damp morning brought strong winds that blew away many of the tributes.
Kirsty Cartwright, 34, stated: “I wanted to be here to show how much he was loved.”
