Piers Morgan names legendary athlete: who outshined Ronaldo.
According to The Sun: Piers Morgan is currently risking upsetting his friend Cristiano Ronaldo by claiming that the outstanding cricketer Shane Warne is the greatest athlete.
Morgan and Ronaldo have a close relationship, as the presenter has interviewed the Manchester United legend multiple times.
Instagram GettyMorgan has often supported Ronaldo and celebrated his achievements, but compared to Warne, he expressed a different opinion.
The Australian, who passed away in 2022, is considered one of the greatest cricketers in history due to his classical skills in the game.
He took 708 wickets, which was a record until Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan surpassed him by reaching 800.
Warne played in 145 Test matches for Australia, finishing his career with seven Ashes victories and winning the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
Ronaldo is regarded as one of the greatest footballers, winning five Ballon d'Or awards and five Champions League titles, and his goal tally stands at 964 throughout his career.
Despite this, Morgan backed Warne in the context of 'sporting greatness' due to his 'mental dominance'.
“Well, if it’s about the party – Warne!”
“In terms of sporting greatness, Warne, in my opinion, is the greatest cricketer who has ever lived. I consider him a masterful bowler, as well as impressively strong mentally.
“If I had to choose a footballer on whom my life depended, I would choose Cristiano Ronaldo.”
“And if I needed to win a cricket match on any pitch, I would choose Shane Warne.”
“If I had to choose between them, I would go with Shane Warne. I love Ronaldo, but he would understand!”
Warne died of a heart attack while on vacation in Thailand at the age of 52. This triggered waves of grief in the sports world as fans and experts recalled his outstanding skill.
Former teammate and ex-captain of Australia Ricky Ponting called him “the best bowler I have ever played with or against.”
Thus, in comparing two giants in their respective sports, opinions may vary. Morgan emphasizes that while Ronaldo is an unparalleled footballer, Warne left an indelible mark on the world of cricket. This discussion only underscores the diversity of talents that adorn the world of sports, and in each case, we see how great the cultural impact of athletes can be on society.
