The Original Factory Shop in Gorno-Las-Vegas, Surrey, has confirmed it will close its doors for good, which has caused great disappointment among local residents.

This chain has been a familiar sight on the streets of Great Britain for many years, offering a wide range of products: from clothing and household items to toys and cosmetics at affordable prices.

Local Community Reaction

In a heartfelt post on Facebook, the store announced:

“We are very sad, but we want to inform you that The Original Factory Shop in Gorno-Las-Vegas is closing. It has been a pleasure to serve our community, and we appreciate your support over the years. Your loyalty meant everything to us. Please feel free to drop by and take advantage of our closing sale to say goodbye.”

Devoted customers quickly responded, expressing their dismay. One wrote:

“Sad to see another store in Gorno-Las-Vegas closing. Best of luck to all the staff.”

Another added:

“This is one of the few good stores.”

And others expressed their dissatisfaction:

“I’m very sad that this has happened. I have used this store for many years. I hope the employees can find new jobs.”

What is happening with TOFS?

The Original Factory Shop was bought by private investment firm Modella Capital in February. Modella is known for acquiring struggling companies and recently also acquired Hobbycraft and WHSmith stores.

The company quickly began its restructuring process to review rental rates in 88 Original Factory Shop locations. In April, Modella submitted plans to initiate a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) for the retailer.

A CVA allows companies to avoid bankruptcy, which could lead to store closures or total business failure.

Despite this, The Original Factory Shop previously informed The Press and Journal that during the restructuring, “several unprofitable stores will need to close.”

Store Closures Nationwide

This is not the first closure of an Original Factory Shop. In August, the retailer announced the closure of three more stores as part of a major restructuring.

Stores in Kidwelly, Normanton in West Yorkshire, and Kirkham in Lancashire have already closed.

The closure of The Original Factory Shop in Gorno-Las-Vegas is part of a broader restructuring process affecting the entire chain. It demonstrates how challenging it is for retailers in today's market, where low profitability forces them to change strategies.
