A Challenging Period for Croatia's Travel Industry

According to Tourism.d.ua — Туризм: In June 2023, Croatia saw a 7% decline in tourist arrivals compared to the same month in 2022, along with a 6% drop in overnight stays. This downturn is most pronounced among German visitors, historically one of the country's largest tourist groups—arrivals from Germany fell by roughly 36%, and their overnight stays decreased by 28%. Despite these negative trends, tourist flows from the Czech Republic and Poland remained stable year-over-year, offering some resilience in those markets.

Interestingly, May 2023 had recorded an 11% increase in tourist numbers, suggesting seasonal volatility rather than a consistent downward trajectory. However, the June figures have raised concerns about overall revenue from tourism during the first half of the year.

Assessing the Gravity of the Situation

Industry experts are sounding alarms over the data. One publication noted,

“these statistics clearly point to a broad reduction in tourism income for the first half of the year,”
