The Mystery of the U.S. Navy: 200 Sailors Witness UFO over Aircraft Carrier in 2004.
Unusual Sighting off the Coast of the U.S.
According to The Sun: Hundreds of sailors stood in awe as they watched a 'UFO sphere' 40 feet in diameter hovering over the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier.
The bright orange orb, spotted over the flight deck of the USS Ronald Reagan, became one of the most mysterious sightings in the history of American military aviation.
Derek Smith said he is not prone to paranormal beliefs and still vividly remembers his sighting, despite the years that have passedDerek Smith

This incident remains unexplained. Documentarian Dave S. Beti, who made a film in 2019 about another famous UFO case, has been investigating this mystery for years.
Witnesses and Their Testimonies
Beti interviewed many sailors who still claim to have seen the UFO in the eastern part of the U.S. in early 2004.
According to him, attempts to understand what happened were hampered by the lack of official confirmation. One witness noted that senior officers behaved suspiciously after the incident.
“I can still vividly imagine that object, even though it's been 18 years. All I know is that it was something I couldn't explain”

Sailor Patrick Gokey, who served on the ship that night, noted that the object “did not move like other planes I’ve seen and was faster than anything I’ve ever seen.”
He estimates that about 200 sailors witnessed this incident. Former ship advisor Carol Olesiak, who was on watch from 8 PM to midnight and was responsible for the ship's log, also mentioned a light that he described as resembling the biblical “burning bush.”
Olesiak claims that for four hours from 8 PM, this orb hovered over the aircraft carrier. He says he was asked not to record the incident.
The Mystery Continues
Derek Smith, a former sailor, said he still remembers that sighting “as if it happened yesterday,” calling it the 'most mysterious' of everything he has ever seen.
He emphasized that while some of his peers believed the object was a “weather balloon,” he disagrees. Smith is convinced that “the government knows more than they are telling us.”
Meanwhile, Beti continues to work on the timeline of this event and encourages sailors who may have additional information to come forward. He believes that given the large number of people on board, many could have seen this event.

On the Way to Investigation
However, the Pentagon has faced criticism for the lack of attention to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP) – the new term for UFOs. Those who claim to have seen UAP consider it a national security issue that is not seriously addressed by the U.S. governments.
The command created the Office for Anomalous Phenomena Research in 2022 to track UAP. From May 1, 2023, to June 1, 2024, the U.S. authorities received 757 reports from various countries. The Pentagon found no evidence of extraterrestrial beings.
This case confirms that the issue of UFOs still generates lively interest among military personnel and scientists. Many witnesses who claim to have seen unusual phenomena seek clarity and understanding of why such events occur and what may be behind them. The situation demonstrates that information about unknown phenomena remains a relevant topic for discussion in society.Read also
