In a new Netflix series dedicated to Hearn's business, it is noted that darts is experiencing a true boom.
“More people are tuning in to the game, and the longer Luke plays, the more viewers show up,” Hearn noted in the film “Matchroom: The Greatest Showmen”, which premieres today.
Hearn emphasized Little's importance: “This guy fearlessly steps onto the stage and conquers the world. As long as Luke can fill the halls and darts remains at peak popularity, there’s no reason to worry.”
Financial Successes and Global Impact
Darts now generates over £60 million a year, and according to PDC chief Matt Porter, demand for the sport is enormous.
“The number of people wanting to buy tickets this year is the same as for Glastonbury,” he said.
Thanks to a £125 million deal with Sky Sports, Little has the chance to earn £1 million for winning seven matches over Christmas and New Year.
Challenges Ahead
However, there are still many issues that need addressing, including the Premier League format, disciplinary processes, and new rules related to attracting wealthy investors from the Middle East.
“We want to be involved in darts but do it in a crazy way,” said businessman Turki Al-Sheikh.
The series consists of six episodes and concludes with Matchroom's board decision on the potential sale of part of the business.
Darts today is not just entertainment but a rapidly growing real business. The successes of young champion Luke Little undoubtedly open new horizons for the sport and its popularity. The ticket market situation and growing interest in darts indicate its potential for the future. At the same time, the challenges facing the sports industry require attention and decisive action from leadership.
