According to The Sun: At the age of 92, Dickie Bird, the esteemed cricket umpire, has passed away. His signature gesture of raising his hand with a pointed finger became a symbol of fair officiating on the field.

During his career, he officiated 66 tests and 69 international matches, including three World Cup finals, demonstrating wit and fairness while expertly handling some of the most challenging players.
After his passing, it was revealed that Bird would leave his estate—mainly from his successful 1997 autobiography—to children's hospitals he frequently visited.
“Dickie Bird enjoyed a brilliant career as an international umpire, entering the history books as the most renowned and beloved official in the history of the game,” said a statement from the club.

Tribute-givers, including other cricket stars, expressed gratitude for Bird's contribution to the game. Among them was famous player Sir Geoffrey Boycott, who noted:
“Dickie was a character, always cheerful. He was respected, admired, and loved. A cricket icon.”

His popularity was also fueled by his interaction with all players—he could officiate fairly but never lost his sense of humor.
In 2014, Bird was appointed president of the club, and his contribution to cricket helped the club win two championships.

Player Graham Gooch shared memories of Bird, particularly a moment when he was injured during a match against Australia:
“He tried to avoid a direct hit, but the ball struck him on the ankle. And he never hesitated to show how much it hurt him,” Gooch recalled.
