In Baku, McLaren has the chance to secure their milestone 10th world championship title for drivers, as they hold a significant lead - 337 points over second-placed Ferrari.
How McLaren can win the constructors' championship at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix
McLaren will become the constructors' champions of 2025 in Azerbaijan if their lead over the second team before the finish of the race is at least 346 points.
Here are the results Piastri and Norris need to achieve success:
- Outscore Ferrari by nine points or more.
- Not fall behind Mercedes by 12 points or more.
- Not fall behind Red Bull by 33 points or more.
If McLaren secures their seventh 1-2 finish this season, the title will be guaranteed.
Also, a second and third place for Piastri and Norris will be enough if neither Charles Leclerc nor Lewis Hamilton wins the race.
If McLaren wins the 13th race and another driver finishes third, this will also bring the title.
Will McLaren break the record if they win the constructors' championship in Azerbaijan?
If McLaren wins the constructors' championship in Baku this weekend, they will become the first team to clinch the title seven races before the end of the season.
The current record belongs to Red Bull, who secured the championship back in 2023 with six races left in the season.
McLaren also aim to surpass the points record set by Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez two years ago.
Red Bull amassed an impressive 860 points, while the team from Woking currently has 617 and has a good chance of breaking this record.
In conclusion, the stage in Baku is not only critical for the constructors' title but also opens up a chance for you to witness a potentially historic moment in Formula 1. McLaren, frankly speaking, arrive at this race in excellent form, and fans can expect an exciting battle on track.
